Using SIMCA-4000 for continuous processes, or SIMCA-Batch On-Line for batch ones, provides real-time summaries of the process. Instead of looking at multiple single variable (univariate) charts one can view just a few multivariate Shewhart control charts.

Operators viewing the multivariate process indicator can make adjustments in an open loop control mode. Optionally, closed loop control can also be achieved by sending the alarm signal and contributions back to the data historian or SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system.
