The variation of quality measurement within this industry is as wide as it gets; from big blocks of rocks to the smallest granules and even powders. Fluorescence, particle size distribution, and IR are regular tools of analysis, off-line as well as on-line, and data piles up quickly. With the addition of multivariate tools, the measurements can be used in on-line predictions of quality.
Even in early stages in mining when classifying undiscovered mineral deposits, the multivariate strategy has proved indispensable.
